Chan’s Fish Bar, in Waunborfa Road, Cefn Fforest, is now under new ownership

A fish and chip shop owner has been prosecuted by Caerphilly County Borough Council following a routine food hygiene inspection.

Hung Kit Tsui, who used to run Chan’s Fish Bar, in Waunborfa Road, Cefn Fforest, admitted nine food safety charges when he appeared at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court earlier this month.

The shop is now under new ownership.

A council environmental health officer visited the shop on March 14, 2019. The council said the premises were in a “filthy condition” and were “poorly maintained”. Food safety management procedures were also not being effectively implemented or maintained.

Hung Kit Tsui, 45, of Wyncliffe Gardens, Cardiff, was fined £1,761, ordered to pay £1,603 toward prosecution costs and a victim surcharge of £176.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Public Protection, said: “This is yet another great example of the sterling work our Environmental Health Team undertake to ensure public safety. It is important that we continue with routine inspections and take necessary action when required. It is also important to note that as an authority we undertake a lot of proactive work to support businesses to trade safely.”
