A drug dealer caught in the act by plain-clothed police officers on Blackwood High Street has been jailed for two years and four months.

Corey Baldwin, 23, of Twyn Gardens, Cefn Fforest, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday April 23, after he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

He was caught in an aparent drug deal by officers from Gwent Police’s Community Action Team during a patrol on Saturday August 9, 2025.

Police saw a person he sold to duck into a shop doorway before sniffing a substance. Officers then stopped the men, detaining and searching them.

On Baldwin, they found bags of white powder – suspected to contain cocaine or ketamine – and a green tablet. He was then arrested and taken into custody.

Officer in the case, PC David Brice, said: “Our Community Action Team homes in on hotspot areas across Gwent at risk of being affected by disorderly behaviour or drug-related offences, and continues to act on any information or concerns you have around drug activity.”

PC Brice continued: “You have the right to feel safe in your neighbourhoods, and our officers have a shared commitment to increasing safety, trust in our services, and building strong relationships with the public.

“I hope our ongoing proactive operations in our towns, one of which has resulted in a 28-month sentence for Baldwin, is continuing to build on this.”
