A fire engine was attacked with stones when attending a blaze in Caerphilly on Saturday, January 22.

Firefighters from Caerphilly Fire Station were called to a refuse fire in Lansbury Park at 7.38pm, but stones were thrown at their vehicle after they arrived.

The vehicle’s windscreen was damaged by the stones, but thankfully nobody was injured.

The refuse fire was put out shortly after 8pm.

A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service told Caerphilly Observer: “Attacks on crews while protecting our communities and keeping people safe is completely unacceptable.

“Incidents like this may seem small and inconsequential, but they put our firefighters and emergency service colleagues in danger.”

The spokesperson added: “We will be working closely with local Gwent Police officers to help identify the individuals responsible.”

The fire service was unable to confirm the exact location of the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident can contact Gwent Police on 101 quoting reference number 2200024417.
