Markham’s Gerwyn Price hit two nine-dart finishes as he won the third night of the Premier League in Belfast on Thursday evening.

World number one Price, 36, sealed victory with a 6-4 win over James Wade in the final.

En route to the final, Price avenged his World Championships semi-final defeat to Michael Smith, knocking him out in his opening game of the night.

Price then went on to beat Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals, hitting a nine-darter in the process.

His second nine-darter came in the final against Wade, where Price came from 4-3 down to pick up five league points and a £10,000 winner’s bonus.

Price becomes just the second player to hit two nine-dart finishes in a Premier League night – the other being 16-time world champion Phil Taylor.

After the final, Price said: “Tonight I felt like I couldn’t miss. I feel on top of the world right now.

“I told James in the practice room [before the final] I was going to hit another one, I just fancied it tonight.

“But, as well as I played tonight, I could’ve possibly lost in two games which shows how high the standard is at the moment.

“That’s how well I’ve been playing recently, I’m feeling good in myself.

He added: “I put it down to being been back in the gym and looking after myself. The last two-and-a-half weeks I’ve been putting some hard work in at the gym.”
