Caerphilly’s Dylan Emery has defeated pro Mitchell Mann, who is ranked 87th in the world, 6-0 in his first World Championship qualifier.

Emery, 20, will need to win three more matches if he is to qualify for the most prestigious tournament on the snooker calendar.

Having won his tour card for the upcoming season back in October, when he became the European Under-21 Champion in Portugal, Emery said he can now “focus on building his confidence” in an interview with World Snooker Tour.

Emery’s tour card will last two years and allow him to compete around the world against some of the biggest names in the sport.

The World Championships are due to start on April 12 in Sheffield. If Emery can qualify and make it to the Crucible, he’ll earn £20,000 in prize money.

But Emery’s main focus in on “getting the job done”, with his focus firmly on his next match

Emery, who practices at the Aber and Senghenydd Ex-Servicemen’s Club, will now face pro Gao Yang of China who is currently ranked 74th in the World. The contest will start at 2.30pm on Friday, April 8.
