A teenager who was killed in a car crash in Monmouthshire on Sunday, May 8 has been named by police as Dafydd Hughes, from Abertysswg.

The crash, which involved a Peugeot 5008 and a Ford Focus, happened at around 1.30pm on Usk Road, Shirenewton, near Chepstow.

Paying tribute to 18-year-old Dafydd in a statement released through Gwent Police, his family said: “We as a family are truly heartbroken.

“Dafydd had just turned 18 – he had his whole life ahead of him.

“He was a very kind and loving boy who worshipped his family. He was a good friend to many people and had that little something about him. If you only met him for a minute, he would touch a place in your heart.

“Dafydd made the most of his life and was always smiling. He loved fishing and going to dog shows. He was a proper boy.

“Dafydd was a loving son, grandson, brother, nephew and dear friend and will be greatly missed.”

A 54-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were taken to hospital for treatment after the crash, but have since been released.

A 29-year-old man remains in hospital.

Gwent Police is still appealing for information about the crash, and has urged anyone who was in the area at the time, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward.
