Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has joined French side OGC Nice following his departure from Juventus.

After the move was announced, Caerphilly-born Ramsey, 31, tweeted about a “new chapter” and said he “can’t wait to get started”.

The club, based on the French Riviera and nicknamed ‘Les Aiglons’, finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season – the top flight of French football.

The club is owned by chemical firm Ineos, which was founded by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ramsey’s spell in Italy came to an end after his Juventus contract was “mutually terminated” a year early.

The former Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni pupil spent the second half of last season on loan at Scottish side Rangers – but his spell in Glasgow was hampered by injury.

He departs Juventus after helping the club to a Serie A title, as well as picking up a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italia.

He joined the club in the summer of 2019 after 11 years at Arsenal. In joining ‘The Old Lady’, Ramsey followed in the footsteps of Welsh footballing icons John Charles and Ian Rush, who also represented Juventus during their illustrious careers.

Last month, Ramsey played his part in Wales’ FIFA World Cup qualifying win over Ukraine in Cardiff.

The win saw Wales qualify for this winter’s World Cup in Qatar – the first time Wales will have appeared at a World Cup since 1958.
