On Monday, Maxime Cinema on Blackwood High Street opened its doors free of charge to livestream the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Doors opened at 10am, with around 25 members of the public showing up in what was described as a “surreal experience” by the staff.

Duty manager James Trott told Caerphilly Observer: “The atmosphere was palpable. Although it was silent, you could feel the emotion in the room.

“Even though it was a sad event, it was a truly amazing day. We provided free hot drinks and everyone was incredibly grateful for the shared experience.

“Towards the end of the ceremony, all of the staff went into the screening and stood with the public to sing the national anthem [God Save the King] together. A one off event that we’ll never forget.”
