Around £100,000 in cash was seized by police following a car chase in the car park of Ystrad Mynach Tesco.

The chase happened at around 10.40am on Tuesday, November 1, with two men later arrested.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “Officers were in the car park of Tesco in Ystrad Mynach carrying out enquiries as part of an ongoing investigation.

“Officers attempted to stop a minibus and an Audi from trying to exit the car park.”

While trying to escape the car park, the Audi caused significant damage to a number of parked cars, as well as police cars.

At Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on November 2, an order was granted under the Proceeds of Crime Act to Gwent Police to continue to hold £100,000 in cash that was seized by officers following the chase.

Roy Jones, 67, of Lansbury Avenue, Cefn Hengoed, and Jay Jones, 22, of Pen y Bryn Court, Croespenmaen, both appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on November 3.

The pair were charged with possession, use, and acquisition of criminal property under the Proceeds of Crime Act, the supply of cocaine, and possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Jay Jones also faced a charge of dangerous driving.

Both were remanded in custody and are due to appear next at Newport Crown Court on December 1.
