A man has appeared in court accused of drunkenly driving a stolen JCB into a house and then using it to damage two cars.

Video footage of the incident, which happened in Maes y Coed, Blackwood on November 8, went viral on social media and made national headlines.

Afterwards, the driver of the JCB is reported to have driven it to a McDonald’s where police arrested him.

Mark Holmes, 55, of Brynheulog Street, Penybryn, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court on November 10 and was remanded in custody.

He is charged with aggravated vehicle taking (twice); actual bodily harm; criminal damage; dangerous driving; and drink driving.

Holmes is due to appear at Newport Crown Court on December 8.
