A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a house fire in Hengoed on Wednesday morning.
Thankfully, nobody was injured, with Gwent Police confirming there was no one inside the house at the time of the fire.
The man is currently in police custody.
Gwent Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service were all called to the house, on Ael y Bryn, before 5am on Wednesday morning.
The blaze was extinguished shortly before 7am.
Park Road, near Hengoed railway station, was closed by police while the fire service attended. The road reopened at around 8am.
A fire service spokesperson said: “Crews from Aberbargoed, Caerphilly and Pontypridd stations attended the scene assisting South Wales Police.
“Firefighters used specialist equipment, including breathing apparatus, a seven-metre ladder and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.”
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We sent one rapid response vehicle, a duty operations manager and the Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene. We were subsequently stood down by police.”
