A Bargoed RFC player has been celebrated after reaching 450 caps for the team.
Darren Humphries has achieved the milestone after playing for the club for 22 years. He started as a youth player and made his debut for the first XV in the 2001-2002 season.
Since then, he has played for the Wales amateur side, in the National Championship Cup final at the Principality Stadium in the 2021-22 season and has managed to never be sent off the pitch.
Darren follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Peter Bufton, who also played for the club which was founded in 1882.
According to the club’s website, Darren is among the most ‘talented players in Bargoed RFC history’.
The club said: “Well done Darren a well-deserved reward, to get that special cap even if you still believe you’ve played 500 games.”
Bargoed RFC play at Bargoed RFC ground on Moorland Road. Their next match is in Port Talbot against Tata Steel RFC on December 10 at 2.30pm.
