Two people have been arrested following a string of burglaries in Blackwood.

Gwent Police received reports that a shop on Blackwood High Street had been broken into on Wednesday, January 4, with cash and an iPhone stolen.

While investigating the burglary, police were led to a residential property in Blackwood, where a search was carried out and the two people were arrested.

A 40-year-old man from Blackwood was one of those arrested. He was charged with four counts of burglary and a count of fraud by false representation.

He appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on Saturday, January 7 and was remanded in custody.

A 43-year-old woman, also from the Blackwood area, was the other person arrested.

She was charged with two counts of burglary and has been released on bail.

Gwent Police said other burglaries linked to the investigation included an overnight burglary at a shop on Market Place between January 4 and January 5, as well as another overnight break-in on the High Street between December 6 and December 7.

A burglary at Libanus Primary School on August 12, which saw televisions, cash and a cement mixer stolen, is also linked to the investigation, Gwent Police has said.
