New Class 231 FLIRT trains will be appearing on the Rhymney line

Transport for Wales ran the first service of its new Class 231 trains today – including journeys to and from Rhymney and Bargoed.

There were ten services in total which used the Class 231 FLIRT trains, which have been manufactured in Switzerland by Stadler for Transport for Wales.

A number of passengers posted about their experiences of the new models on social media, including Dan Edwards who wrote in a post on Twitter: “Thought I’d get to work nice and early to check out the new Class 231s on the Rhymney line – fair play, it’s absolutely cracking on board. Here’s to more of these in service ASAP!”

According to a spokesperson for Transport for Wales, the official launch of the new trains will be in a month’s time – the date has yet to be announced.
