More than 70 new jobs could be created at a computer firm in Ystrad Mynach thanks to a £6 million investment.

Centerprise International’s new seven hectare (17 acre) operations centre – roughly the size of seven rugby fields – was opened in October last year, with help from a £387,000 Welsh Government grant.

The company aims to create a minimum of 70 new jobs in the area, ranging from PC building to cloud services. Many of the new jobs will be apprenticeships, working with local colleges. Its current workforce is around 50 people.

Centerprise is a major supplier of IT equipment to the public sector in Wales with most councils being customers. All Welsh Government laptops are bought through the company.

This funding adds significant capacity for building PCs and the Dyffryn Business Park site is now the centre for all the company’s technical operations.

Cloud services and Esports are two other focus areas for the new site following the company’s growing success supplying high-end gaming PCs to football clubs and Esports arenas across the UK and Europe.

Finance Minister, Rebecca Evans, visited the operations centre on Monday January 23.

She said: “Centerprise International’s decision to invest in this plant is great news for Wales. Bringing skilled engineering resources within easy reach of Welsh public sector customers will help us improve how we deliver essential services to the Welsh public.”

Centerprise International chief executive Jeremy Nash said: “We will use this investment to drive the circular economy and provide career opportunities in digital, data and technology for the current and future generations of Wales.

“This is another proud and immensely significant milestone in Centerprise’s journey.”
