Community groups urged to apply for share of £5m fund

Community groups and sports clubs across Wales are being urged to apply for financial support after the Welsh Government announced a £5 million funding boost.

The money is being added to the Community Facilities Programme, which offers grants to help voluntary organisations upgrade well-used spaces.

Under the scheme, groups can apply for up to £25,000 for smaller scale improvements, or up to £300,000 for larger community-led projects.

The funding is intended to improve community centres, grassroots sports clubs, and libraries. However, the investment is still subject to formal Senedd approval later this month.

Deputy First Minister Sioned Williams announced the funding during a visit to a refurbished library in Neath, which previously used a £181,300 grant to expand its community services and food bank.

Ms Williams said: “Our communities are at their strongest when people have welcoming, accessible shared spaces to enjoy.

“This £5 million investment helps to create places where everyone belongs. From libraries to sports facilities, I am pleased that we can support more spaces that bring people together.”

Applications are open to registered charities, community groups, and social enterprises.
