Search 4 Stars begins its ten-week run to look for ‘fresh talent’

The competition will last for ten weeks in Aberbargoed

The hunt is on for Aberbargoed’s best entertainer as the ‘Search 4 Stars’ competition is set to begin.

The ten-week singing showcase to uncover new and fresh talent in the valleys starts on February 10 at the Arthur Balfour Conservative Club, Aberbargoed.

Soloists, duos and small groups of up to five people will be “put through their paces” with different genres and judges each week, according to one of the organisers, Lisa James. 

Lisa is a singer herself and wants to pass on the baton to the next generation. 

She said: “This is something different devised by myself and colleagues, all of us…singers ourselves.

“I’m retiring but in a bid to boost my local, I’m doing one last run.”

The mission is to find the “best, most versatile singer [or] entertainer in our valley” and to bring business and revenue to the Arthur Balfour Conservative Club.

The competition winner will get studio time and photo shoots to help them in their music career

The club is “struggling”, according to Lisa, who has taken financial constraints into account for the whole event and said: “With the cost-of-living crisis, we are only charging £2 on the door.” 

Lisa hopes that the final prize will be worth around £500 – with studio time and photoshoots all part of the package.

Raffles will also take place during the shows with the money raised going to Velindre Cancer Centre.

Children and families are welcome, provided a responsible adult is present.

Doors open at 7pm with the first act taking to the stage at 7.45pm. Tickets are £2.

The Arthur Balfour Conservative Club is located on 113 Commercial St, Aberbargoed.
