Walkers taking part in the Caerphilly Challenge Series

The annual Caerphilly Challenge Series is set to return to the Caerphilly basin this spring.

The event, which is being held on Saturday April 29, promises a ‘serious’ challenge for walkers and runners of all abilities.

The exact routes are yet to be confirmed, but in previous years, participants have been able to chose to walk, run or jog between five miles and 22 miles around the scenic landscape.

The race will start and finish at St Martin’s School in Caerphilly.

The route normally includes a variety of different landscapes, including hilltops, farmland, riversides and woodlands.

Dogs will be allowed to take part, providing they are on a lead, while water will be available at each checkpoint.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the event must book before Wednesday, April 26.

The challenge costs £12 to enter, while anyone under the age of 18 can enter for £10.

The minimum age to enter the challenge is 12.

There will also be a five mile walk, which will cost £2 to enter and won’t require any prior booking. The walk will be open to people of all ages, including children.

The event is being run by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside and Landscape Service and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, along with Caerphilly Adventure Group, Caerphilly Ramblers, Islwyn Ramblers and others. The event is sponsored by cleaning-product producer Nikwax.
