Strike action by Welsh Ambulance Service staff has been called off

The GMB and Unite unions have called off a planned strike by Welsh Ambulance Service staff.

Workers were due to take industrial action on Monday March 6, but this has now been “paused” for further talks to take place.

In a statement, Unite said “significant progress” had been made in talks with Welsh Government.

The Welsh Government said: “We welcome the pausing of strike action by Unite and GMB while meaningful conversations with our trade union social partners continue.”

Members of both unions went on strike for several days last month. Unite has previously announced a further date of strike action on March 10.

Pay offer accepted

A 3% increase for NHS workers, backdated to April last year was offered as well as a 1.5% year-on-year increase on top of the £1,400 increase paid earlier this year.

Trade unions met with NHS bosses and the Welsh Government on February 28, through the Wales Partnership Forum, and collectively narrowly accepted the new pay offer. In total this equates to an additional 7.6% on the NHS pay bill for 22/23.

The Royal College of Nursing however rejected the deal and has threatened to start planning further industrial action.
