An art exhibition celebrating the landscape of the Rhymney Valley is coming to the Winding House in New Tredegar this May.
Welsh artist Neil Carroll’s paintings capturing Butetown, Bedwellty and Newtown will be shown at the museum in New Tredegar from May 6 to 27.
On the museum’s website, Neil describes his motivations for the paintings.
“Since growing up at the top end of the Rhymney valley, I have always been inspired by the sheer natural beauty of the place, a place that I love,” he wrote.
“Nowadays it’s a reference point once again and I’ve returned there in my current work,” he added.
This includes not only capturing “a stretch of homelands” from all seasons and times of day but also the artist’s emotions about the area.
Originally born in Rhymney, Neil trained at Newport School of Art and the University of Wales, Cardiff.
He has had a solo exhibition in Newport in 2004 and his touring exhibition, ‘Here Comes the Sun’ represented Wales at The International Festival InterCeltique in Lorient, Brittany in 2010.
As well as the exhibition at the Winding House, Neil will also have paintings showing at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery in April 2024.
Homelands will run at the Winding House from May 6 to May 27.
