A Fochriw cocaine dealer has been handed a three-and-a-half year sentence, half of which will be served behind bars.
Rhys Lewis, 28, of Cae Glas Newydd, appeared at Newport Crown Court on Friday March 24, where he pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of cocaine, as well as possessing criminal property.
He was told he will serve half of his sentence in prison before being released on licence.
Lewis is due to face a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing in July.
What is a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing?
A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing is held if a defendant is judged to have benefitted financially from their criminal behaviour. The hearing will determine how much the defendant will have to pay back.
PC Rhys Jones, of Gwent Police, said he hoped the prison term given to Lewis would deter potential offenders.
He said: “Lewis is now serving a lengthy custodial sentence for his part in the supply of class A drugs. He was also in possession of thousands of pounds worth of proceeds, which will now be confiscated.
“The force is committed to protecting the public from the devastating impact illegal drugs can have on our communities, will continue to target anyone involved in supply and distribution, and hope this sentence acts as a deterrent to others.
“We encourage anyone with information about drug supply in their community to report any concerns so that we can take action.
“You can report it to us by calling 101 or messaging us on social media, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers.”
