Specially-trained firearms officers attended as a precaution

An air rifle has been seized by police in Cefn Fforest.

Police were called to Cefn Fforest Miners’ Welfare Ground at around 7.55pm on Monday April 3 after reports that a firearm had been fired in the park.

Specially-trained firearms officers attended as a precaution and the rifle was seized.

No injuries were reported, Gwent Police confirmed.

A police spokesperson said: “A group of eight people were present in the park upon the arrival of officers and were moved on.

“A 20-year-old man was spoken to by officers and is assisting with our enquiries.

“No arrests nor anti-social behaviour referrals were made or issued.”
