Lauren Price MBE returns to the ring on Saturday May 6 as she looks to become the first-ever British women’s welterweight champion.

Price, from Ystrad Mynach, takes on former European champion Kirstie Bavington in Birmingham, with the winner being awarded a coveted Lonsdale belt.

It will be Price’s fourth professional fight since signing a pro deal with BOXXER last year.

The Tokyo Olympic champion has won all three of her fights since turning professional a year ago.

A former Wales international footballer, Price’s most recent win came against Germany’s Naomi Mannes in Paris in March.

Her first professional fight came in June, where she beat Iceland’s Valgerdur Gudstensdottir with a unanimous points decision at the Wembley Arena.

In October, Price defeated Hungary’s Timea Belik at the O2 Arena in London, earning her first stoppage victory.

Speaking after the fight was announced last month, Price said: “It’s a complete honour. It’s another thing to add to my list to go and make history.

“I can’t believe it really. It’s a very proud moment for me.

“I was looking forward to boxing on May 6 anyway. But this is the icing on the cake. To fight in my fourth professional fight for such a prestigious title is the direction I want to go in. It’s absolute honour.”

Robert Smith, General Secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, said: “Women’s boxing has come on tremendously and now we have a British Championship. The winner will indeed be a worthy champion of this historic bout.”
