More than 8,000 visitors attended the 2023 Ystrad Mynach Spring Fair
Bargoed is set to have its first May Fair which follows other events in the borough, such as Ystrad Mynach Spring Fair, pictured

The first-ever Bargoed May Fair is set to take place this weekend, with road closures will be in place during the event.

The fair will run from 9am to 5pm on Saturday May 13 and promises fun for all ages with live music, entertainment, rides, activities and stalls.

Full road closures will be in place at Hanbury Square, Hanbury Road, High Street and Upper High Street from 9pm on May 12 until 9pm on May 13. Buses will also be diverted.

Bargoed Town councillor Peter Collins previously told Caerphilly Observer about the event and said it was something to look forward to.

“There’ll be something for everyone,” said Cllr Collins, “we’re bringing trade and custom to Bargoed.”

Bargoed Town Council, which has put £15,000 into the event, said the event was being launched “in response to residents’ feedback”.

The event follows others across the borough including the first-ever Blackwood Spring Fair on March 4, the Ystrad Mynach Spring Fair on March 25 and the Caerphilly Food and Drink Festival on April 29.

A full road closure in the town comes after the Winter Food and Craft Fair, held in Bargoed on December 10, was criticised for road safety.

Events committee chairwoman Cllr Dianne Price, who is also a county councillor, raised the issue at a town council event committee meeting on January 12 and said: “The feedback I had wasn’t good.

“There was a lot of discord because all of our town wasn’t closed.”

The Winter Food and Craft Fair attracted more than 7,000 visitors and Caerphilly County Borough Council deemed the event, which it funded at a cost of £7,000, a “huge success”.

Bargoed’s Christmas roller rink will not be returning after injuries and criticism
