A new sexual health clinic has been opened by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

The Julia Frances Centre for Sexual Health was opened on May 25 at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

It is dedicated to the late Julia Frances Maynard – a “much-loved” former member of the Health Board Sexual Health Team.

Julia was described by many of her colleagues as “passionate” about her work in the sexual and reproductive health service, always striving to offer the best of care.

The Clinic was officially opened by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s chief executive, Nicola Prygodzicz, and Julia’s family.

Clinical director for sexual and reproductive health at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Dr Jane Dickson, said: “Julia was an incredible lead nurse at our previous clinic, The Cordell Centre, but tragically died of metastatic cancer in 2018.

“Our new clinic, which can be found on Ward B6 West of the Royal Gwent Hospital, is bright, modern and designed for full accessibility and inclusivity.

“The clinic is the pinnacle of our new service model, offering a sexual health hub in every borough of our health board area, with B6 West being the focus for our most specialist services.

“We hope that everyone passing through the doors of our new centre will feel welcomed, dignified and free from stigma.”
