A 30-year-old man has been arrested after police discovered a £500,000 cannabis factory in Rhymney back in January. 

The man, from the Wolverhampton area, was arrested on suspicion of growing cannabis – a class B drug – and on suspicion of fraud by false representation. 

He has since been released on bail. 

Gwent Police confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.

 The case saw half a million pounds worth of cannabis found in a disused property in Rhymney on January 4. 

There were around 500 plants found at the site after officers responded to reports of “suspicious activity”, according to Gwent Police. 

Caerphilly Observer understands the property is located on the junction between Moriah Street and Plantation Terrace. 

Reports of a power outage in the area were reported as police carried out the operation. The factory was dismantled and the cannabis was taken away to be destroyed. 

Inspector Lysha Thompson, of Gwent Police, previously said: “Our Caerphilly north team is committed to targeting drug offences and has recently carried out a number of warrants in the area.

“Drug supply will not be tolerated in Gwent and we’re committed to protecting our communities against the harmful effects of illegal drugs.
