Pride Caerffili is Caerphilly’s first ever Pride event

Caerphilly’s inaugural Pride celebration is being held on Saturday June 24.

Pride Caerffili, which is being organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, will be a day-long celebration to recognise LGBTQ+ people’s contribution to society.

The “family friendly” celebrations will take place in Caerphilly Town Centre from 12pm until 7pm and will include live entertainment and an “iconic” Pride parade.

The event will include live music and entertainment from award-winning drag queen Miss Tina Sparkle, along with activities from comprehensive schools and youth services in the area – as well as a Pride parade.

Council cabinet member Carol Andrews, who is the authority’s LGBTQ+ champion, said: “This will be an inclusive event, and we welcome everyone to join us in celebrating the fantastic community that we have here within the county borough.

“Whether you are looking to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community or are excited to join in with the celebrations at the event – I really do hope that you join us on the day for what is truly going to be an amazing occasion.”

The highlight of the day will be the Pride Caerfilli parade.

The parade will begin at St Martins School at 12pm, making its way down through the town centre and towards the Pride Caerfilli Youth Bandstand.

The last stretch of the parade will head back up to the Twyn Car Park, where the parade will finish in time to begin an action-packed day on the Pride Caerfilli Entertainment Stage.

Performances will include the South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus, and a wide variety of drag artists including Polly Amorous, Esther Parade and Jackie Le Beanstalk.

Council organisers are encouraging those who are planning on joining the parade to visit Obv.sr/pride23 to register online.
