Phoenix Ladies held a charity night in May

A charity night held by a ladies’ group has raised £1,000 for good causes.

Phoenix Ladies raised £770 at the event on May 16 – this was rounded up to £1,000 with club charity funds.

A donation of £500 will go to The Parish Trust based in Trethomas and Cancer Research Wales.

Money was raised from various stalls and a raffle – with prizes donated by more than 20 local businesses including Bwthyn, Coffi Vista, Cwrt Rawlin Inn, Mia Bella and the Fish Factory in Trecenydd.

Barbara Donovan, who helps to run the group, told Caerphilly Observer that the businesses had been “fantastic”.

Barbara said: “The night was a success and is something we will definitely repeat.”

One of the main aims of Phoenix Ladies, which started more than 50 years ago, is to raise money for charity.

The group, which meets once a month in the Twyn Community Centre, is now full with 55 members.

Other recent events include a raffle and a fashion show at Edinburgh Woolen Mill with the next get-together taking place at Casa Mia on July 18.

Prizes were donated by local businesses for a raffle
