Volunteers at Caerphilly Miners’ Centre will be raising money for a number of health and nursing charities at their award-winning climate change garden.

The open day event will be held at the centre between 11am and 5pm on Sunday July 16.

Over the last few years, volunteers have been busy reclaiming the derelict site around the Miners’ Centre, with the climate change garden unveiled last summer.

The garden has a variety of different flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables growing, as well as a pond, a seating area, compost bins and a greenhouse.

The garden, which was awarded Green Flag status last year, also has a range of plants capable of dealing with floods and droughts.

Tea and cakes will be sold at the event, with plants also up for sale and a range of activities for children.

Entry will cost £4 for adults, while children’s entry will be free. All proceeds will go towards charities including Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Support, Hospice UK, Carers Trust, Parkinson’s UK, Queens Nursing Institute and a range of smaller charities.

The event is taking place as part of the National Garden Scheme. The scheme gives visitors access to more than 3,500 private gardens across the UK to raise money for health and nursing charities.

Organisers have requested visitors arrive on foot or by public transport, with parking only available for blue badge holders.
