Earlier this year, Nant-y-Parc Primary School in Senghenydd, was announced as the first, and only, primary school in Wales to be accredited with the World Class Schools Quality Mark.

Adding to that achievement, the school has now been named the ‘School of the Year’ by the education charity that runs the scheme.

Headteacher Nicola Davies said the achievement was something pupils were incredibly proud.

She said: “We know our older learners will continue to be fantastic role models for our younger learners and keep our world class ethos alive.”

Teacher Emma Winter, who was the project lead for attaining the quality mark at the school, said: “To be recognised as school of the year is just the icing on the cake.

“We are incredibly proud of this award, especially as the only primary school in Wales. Our pupils have produced world class portfolios and we are thrilled that we have been deemed to be worthy of winning school of the year.”

The school’s accreditation with the World Class Schools Quality Mark saw them join around 140 other schools across the UK. It recognises the skills of students in areas such as leadership, community, and learning.

Nant-y-Parc was one of just a handful of non-selective state schools awarded the mark in the 2023 academic year.
