Pupils at Trinity Fields School have been awarded for their contribution as police cadets.
Pupils at the special needs school, in Ystrad Mynach, have been taking part in the Gwent Police scheme since it was launched in 2019.
It was the first school in Gwent to sign up to the scheme.
It sees officers from Gwent Police’s ‘NXT Gen’ team work with the pupils to teach them life skills and help them understand the role of the police.
Trinity Fields headteacher Ian Elliot said: “Being part of the cadet programme has had a massive impact on the school and our pupils.
“It has taught them how to be good citizens, how to keep safe and it has broken down barriers between pupils and the police, helping them to understand that officers are there to help and most importantly how to call for help in an emergency.”
The scheme is funded through the Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner’s office.
This month, Gwent PCC Jeff Cuthbert was in attendance, along with parents, as pupils marched through the school grounds and received certificates as part of their police cadet pass out ceremony.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Cuthbert said: “It was a wonderful day seeing the pleasure on the faces of the pupils and their parents as their achievements were recognised.
“I am proud to invest in the police cadet programme so we can help build good citizens of the future.”
