Pont News in Pontllanfraith

A shop owner has been ordered to pay almost £2,500 after selling a disposable vape to a person under 18-years-old.

Ramzan Iqbal sold a 50ml watermelon-flavoured Lost Mary vape at Pont News, Pontllanfraith, on January 19 this year.

This was contrary to regulation three of the Nicotine Inhaling Products (Age of Sale and Proxy Purchasing) Regulations 2015 and section 92(2) and (5) of the Children and Families Act 2014.

Iqbal, 54, of Caellwyndr, Nelson, admitted the offence when he appeared at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on August 31, after a prosecution by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Magistrates fined him £1,250, and also ordered him to pay costs of £740, plus a £480 victim surcharge – which will go towards funding victim services.

Iqbal agreed to pay a total of £2,470 at a rate of £100 a week.
