Gerwyn Price has won his seventh PDC title of the year as he clinched Players Championship 29 victory – scooping the £12,000 top prize.

Price, from Markham, beat Dave Chisnall 8-3 in the final in Barnsley on Wednesday November 1.

It was a return to winning ways for Price, who entered the competition off the back of a quarter-final defeat to Danny Noppert at last weekend’s European Championship.

The win was Price’s fourth Players Championship title of 2023.

“I gave myself a kick up the backside and it worked,” said Price, who produced three ton-topping averages throughout the afternoon.

“I was going to take these two days off, but I wanted to punish myself. I was so poor towards the end of the game against Danny [Noppert].

“I couldn’t hit anything early on [against Chisnall], so I was trying to throw a little bit quicker and get my arm in, and thankfully I found it towards the end of that game.

“It’s not easy when you’re playing in all the big tournaments and you’re trying to pick and choose your events. When you do turn up you’re under pressure, but thankfully I did the business today.”

Price opened his campaign with a hard-fought victory over Dutch-American Jules van Dongen, before seeing off Treorchy’s Richie Burnett in the second round.

Price then saw off a late fightback from Chris Dobey before beating Germany’s Ricardo Pietreczko 6-4.

A 6-1 demolition of Gian van Veen followed in the quarter-finals, before Price booked a date with Chisnall after a 7-4 semi-final victory over Australia’s Damon Heta.
