Trethomas Bluebirds Football Club asked pupils from Tyn y Wern Primary School to design a mural to be painted onto the clubhouse at Llanfabon Drive.

Teacher Claire Lippiett told Caerphilly Observer how the school has been strengthening their “community-centred relationship” with the Bluebirds, whose reserves play on the pitch next to the school.

Ms Lippiett continued: “We’ve been working with the club closely and they helped raise money for one of our pupils, Zac, earlier this summer.

“They came to us and asked the students to design a mural for the outside of the changing rooms that represents both the football club, and the area.

“The kids had great fun and loved Derek and Harry coming in to announce the winner. Alfie won and was given a match ball with all the players signatures on.”

Trethomas Bluebirds chairman Dave Evans spoke to Caerphilly Observer about how he and the club see partnerships like this as an “integral part of the our responsibility”.

He continued: “We’ve had a fantastic couple of years working with the school, and we were amazed to see around 50 posters and drawings sent to us by the kids. We spent hours looking through them.

“It’s the least we can do as a club, and when the work is done in the new year, we’ll get the school out to unveil it.”

Mr Evans added how the Bluebirds also hope to run some after school clubs to get more kids active and interested in football.

When asked about Zac’s new bike, Ms Lippiett said Zac has been off school unwell but hopes to receive the new custom-built bike before Christmas.
