Gerwyn Price walking into his Premier League clash with Nathan Aspinall in Belfast

Gerwyn Price’s Premier League Darts night in Belfast came to an early end when the Iceman was beaten by Nathan Aspinall in the opening round.

Price, from Markham, was beaten 6-5 by the Asp on Night Nine on Thursday March 28, and remains second from bottom in the eight-man competition.

The night was eventually won by 17-year-old Luke Littler, who defeated Aspinall in the final.

Despite sitting in seventh position, Price boasts the third-highest tournament average.

Earlier in the week, he said: “I’m playing really well, but the standard in this Premier League is so high.

“My game is in a good place. I just need that extra 1% in my game when it comes to the doubles and taking shots out.”

He continued: “The Premier League is a tough school, but there’s still a long way to go, and if I keep playing the way I am, the results are going to change.”

The Premier League consists of 16 mini-events held across different cities throughout the season, with each league night comprising quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final over the best of 11 legs.

Points will be awarded each night to form the league table, from which the top four players will progress to the play-offs, which will be held at the O2 in London on Thursday May 23.

Premier League Darts heads to Manchester for Night Ten on Thursday April 4, with Price opening up against bottom-place Peter Wright.
