Lauren Price MBE’s World Welterweight Title fight against Jessica McCaskill will be aired on free-to-view television.

The fight, which is being held at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on Saturday May 11, will be shown live on BBC Wales.

A win would see Price, who is undefeated since turning professional in April 2022, make history by becoming Wales’ first female world champion.

The 29-year-old from Ystrad Mynach will face her toughest career test when she attempts to dethrone current welterweight ruler McCaskill.

The clash will be aired on BBC Wales following a rights deal with SkySports and promoters Boxxer.

It will be Price’s first fight since defeating Italy’s Silvia Bortot in Bournemouth in December.

Price said: “When I boxed over in Tokyo for the Olympic Games, the pinnacle of my amateur career, it was covered by the BBC, and now at the pinnacle of my professional career, they’ll be covering my world title fight too, which is brilliant.

“I’d like to just say a huge thank you to Boxxer, Sky Sports and BBC Wales for coming together and backing me during my journey to become world champion.”

Carolyn Hitt, BBC Wales’ head of sport, said: “Wales has a long and proud boxing history and Lauren is already an icon, achieving every accolade – including Olympic gold – as an amateur.

“Now as a professional, she can hopefully make history again in Cardiff in May.”

Ben Shalom, founder and CEO of BOXXER, described the fight as a “historic event” and said: “Lauren Price is already a star in the sport and one of the most talented and decorated athletes Wales has ever produced.”

He added: “We’re excited that everyone in Wales will now have the opportunity to watch Lauren’s crowning moment.”
