Labour’s Jane Mudd has been elected police and crime commissioner for Gwent

Labour’s Jane Mudd has been elected as the first female police and crime commissioner in Wales.

The Newport City Council leader has been elected as Gwent’s police and crime commissioner, and will take over from retiring incumbent Jeff Cuthbert.

Ms Mudd received 28,476 votes, with Conservative Hannah Jarvis finishing second with 21,919 votes.

Plaid Cymru’s Donna Cushing, who is a Caerphilly County Borough councillor representing the Hengoed ward, came third with 9,864 votes.

Lib Dem Mike Hamilton received 8,078 votes.

Turnout across Gwent was low, with only 15.63% of those eligible actually voting.

In Caerphilly County Borough, just 13.93% of eligible voters voted.

Turnout in the Gwent police and crime commissioner election is 15.63%

That's 69,124 votes cast out of an electorate of 442,154.

Caerphilly 13.93%
Monmouthshire 21.20%
Newport 16.88%
