Just four games into the season, there are already some big hitters struggling to maintain their spot as the South East Wales Cricket League heats-up.

With bad weather cancelling two of the four matches for a lot of sides however, there is still plenty of time for clubs to go on a winning run.

The two highest ranked sides in Caerphilly County Borough are Newbridge and Blackwood Town, who both sit in division two.

Former division one side Blackwood are struggling again this season however, and came into the weekend bottom of the league with no wins.

They faced a Vale side who were also winless.

Hosts Blackwood batted first and set a solid score of 197 for the visitors to chase. It took until the penultimate over, but Vale managed to chase that target down and win with four wickets in hand.

Newbridge also came into the weekend without a point, and faced another winless side in Rogerstone Welfare.

It was a much better outcome for travelling Newbridge however, after Rogerstone only set a very catchable 157.

It took until the 43rd over, but the visitors managed to secure their first points with a three wicket victory.

In division three, there was an all Caerphilly clash between Machen and Crumlin, both looking for their first win of the season.

Machen batted first and set a very strong 278 for visiting Crumlin to chase.

The total was too much for the visitors, who could only manage 187, giving Machen a 91 run win.

Down in division four, Pontymister and Crosskeys have had a solid start to their campaign, and came into the weekend facing a struggling Sully Centurions side.

It was a match that went down to the wire with Sully Centurions setting 176 for the hosts to catch.

Pontymister just about managed to reach the target with two wickets to spare. A big win which takes them to fourth in the table.

In division seven, Abercarn travelled to Undy and Magor Cricket Club, who were looking for their first win of the year.

The visitors set a very healthy 263 for Undy to chase, but they managed it brilliantly to win with four wickets in hand inside 38 overs. A blow to Abercarn who would have felt like the win was theirs after batting.

Finally down in division ten, Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer were looking for their first win and hosted Newport’s fourth side.

The visitors batted first and set a solid 204 target for the hosts.

Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer couldn’t get close though; all out for 101. They remain one from bottom.
