Ed and the group take to the hills every Wednesday

A Nordic Walking instructor is encouraging more people to get involved in his sessions, which see him and his group trek across the Valleys.

Nordic Walking is an enhanced walking technique that uses poles to work your upper body as well as your legs, which, according to British Nordic Walking, can help burn up to around 20% more calories than normal walking.

Every Wednesday at 11am, instructor Ed Wooley and the group meet at one of several locations, including Blackwood, Pengam, Pontywaun, and Gelligroes.

The walks, which usually last around 90 minutes including warm-up and cool-down sessions, have been running for five years.

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer, Ed said: “The current class enjoy the opportunity of meeting up with other like-minded people – enjoying the stunning scenery of Caerphilly borough whilst taking part in a worthwhile exercise programme.

“On your first walk we go through the technique – it’s quite easy to learn.”

The Nordic poles are provided, and the charge is £6 per session.
