The centre was evacuated after threatening calls were received

A 59-year-old man from Caerphilly has been arrested on suspicion of “threatening to destroy or damage property” at Rhymney’s Integrated Health and Social Care Centre.

The health centre, on Lawns Industrial Estate, reported threatening calls from a man on the afternoon of Monday September 2.

The centre was then evacuated at around 5pm and closed to the public.

The man was later arrested by Gwent Police and handed a conditional police caution. These are considered alternatives to prosecution to deal with ‘low-level offending’.

A spokesperson from Aneurin Bevan University Health Board said: “We’d like to reassure our communities that we responded quickly to this incident, which was stood down by the police shortly afterwards.

“Nobody was harmed and our patients at Rhymney Integrated Health & Social Care Centre were not affected.

“We’d like to thank our staff and partners at Gwent Police for their swift action and support. We would also like to make it clear that we will not tolerate any threats to our staff or services – and anyone who displays such behaviour will be reported to the police.”
