A firearm has been recovered by police after reports of a man carrying an air rifle bag in Risca, which led to a school and college going into lockdown.
Gwent Police received the report at around 9am on Thursday September 26, after the man had reportedly been spotted in the Dan y Graig Road area.
Police searched the area and confirmed a firearm had been found and “safely secured” by officers.
No arrests have been made, with police enquiries to continue.
Both Risca Primary School and the Coleg Gwent campus in Crosskeys went into lockdown due to the incident.
However, Gwent Police confirmed no threats had been made, and said it did not issue any advice telling the school and college to go into lockdown measures.
Both lockdowns have since been lifted.
