Teams across Caerphilly County Borough were playing in their respective cup competitions over the weekend

Cross Keys and Newbridge are into the semi-finals of the WRU Premiership Cup after earning wins on Saturday October 26 – but Bargoed‘s cup run has come to an end.

The Keys racked up the points as they thumped Narberth 52-28 away from home in the quarter-finals, while Newbridge also won on their travels, beating Brecon 32-22.

However, a single point was the difference as Bargoed lost 29-28 at home to Pontypridd.

Meanwhile, Bedwas earned local bragging rights in the WRU Championship Cup, beating Penallta 26-22 at the Bridgefield.

Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Senghenydd in the Division 1 Cup, losing 39-16 away to Llanishen – who knocked Nelson out in the previous round.

But it was a different story for Caerphilly County Borough’s sides in the Division 2 Cup.

Blackwood‘s unbeaten start to the season continued with an emphatic 80-0 win at Gilfach Goch to ease into the next round, while Caerphilly – who are also unbeaten so far this season – advanced with a convincing 48-12 win at Usk.

Risca also booked their spot in the next round with a 28-12 win over Cwmbran at home.

Down in the Division 3 Cup, Rhymney stormed into the next stage with a big 46-8 win at New Panteg, but Machen on the other hand were knocked out after a 39-12 home loss to Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd.

Elsewhere, Fleur de Lys drew 30-30 at home to Wattstown.

Meanwhile, Bedwellty were knocked out of the Division 4 Cup with a 32-19 loss at home to Gwernyfed.

And finally, three out of five Caerphilly County Borough sides competing in the Division 5 Cup reached the next round after wins over the weekend.

Deri beat Glyncoch 15-5 away, while Blackwood Stars edged Cefn Coed 19-17 at home to keep their cup dreams alive.

Penallta Athletic are also in the draw for the next stage of the cup after beating Llanrumney 30-15 at home.

However, both Hollybush and Trinant crashed out of the competition – Hollybush fell 37-7 away to Tredegear Ironsides, while Trinant lost 30-10 at home to Beaufort.
