Cwmcarn Primary School had inspectors on site in September this year

Cwmcarn Primary School has received a glowing review from education watchdog Estyn following an inspection earlier this year.

The school was described as being an “inclusive learning community where pupils feel safe and secure” by Estyn, which also praised the strong working relationship between teachers and pupils.

The inspector said how provisions for those with additional learning needs are proving “highly successful”, meaning those pupils at risk of ‘underachieving’ are more likely to make good progress.

Pupils praised for ‘excellent’ behaviour as schools receive glowing Estyn reports

The report went on to say leaders at the school place a high priority on pupil attendance and work with families effectively to ensure their children attend school regularly.

This has reportedly had a positive impact on attendance figures.

There were a couple of points the school was asked to work on, including improving pupils’ Welsh language skills, and developing outdoor space as a learning environment.

Overall however, the school’s curriculum was described as “broad and balanced”, with governors described as supportive and well informed.

The full Estyn report can be read here.
