Caerphilly MP “impressed” by hospital progress

Good progress has been made building the new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital, according to Caerphilly MP Wayne David who recently visited the site.

Wayne David, the Labour MP for Caerphilly, said he is impressed at the progress made at the Ystrad Fawr site in Ystrad Mynach, where the new hospital is being built.

Mr David said: “Work at the Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr site started earlier this year, so it was great to use my visit to see how everything is coming along. The impressive progress that is being made is obvious.

“From what I saw on my tour of the development, when the hospital opens the people of the Caerphilly Borough will have state-of- the- art facilities. With 269 rooms, all of which will be single occupancy, this hospital promises to be one of the best hospitals in Britain.”

Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, which will replace the historic Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital, is due to open in autumn 2011 and will be the biggest new hospital built in Wales for 30 years with 255 beds.

The £172million project will be one of the first hospitals in the country to have single en-suite rooms for every patient.

About 280 people have been employed in the construction of the hospital. This is expected to rise to around 350 in December.
