The Dragons currently train at the centre in Ystrad Mynach

Dragons RFC have announced that the Centre for Sporting Excellence (CSE) will remain their training base for a further ten years.

The deal was expected to be announced following the council’s £450,000 commitment to replace the current rugby pitch at the centre in Ystrad Mynach last month.

The council described the CSE as “instrumental” in supporting the regional side, adding how the renewed commitment ensures the facility will remain a “central hub” for rugby development in the area.

Rhys Blumberg, CEO of Dragons RFC, commented: “This new long-term agreement with Caerphilly County Borough Council for the use of our training base at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach gives us great stability as a club and ensures we can look forward and plan our future.”

Councillor Sean Morgan, leader of the council, added: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Dragons RFC. This agreement underscores our commitment to supporting sports development and providing opportunity in our community for both professional and community based clubs.

“This partnership gives more sustainability and resilience for the council to deliver top-tier facilities for our communities.”
