Caerphilly Council's festive food bank appeal has raised £19,368
Caerphilly Council’s festive food bank appeal has raised £19,368

Nearly £20,000 has been raised for food banks and community groups across Caerphilly County Borough this Christmas thanks to a council appeal.

Last month, Caerphilly County Borough Council relaunched its annual festive food bank appeal.

The local authority appealed to residents, staff and local businesses for donations to support local food banks and communities over the Christmas period.

In total, £19,368 was raised through the appeal – beating last year’s figure of £13,000.

The money will be distributed directly to groups across the Caerphilly food network, which is supported by the council’s Caerphilly Cares team.

Council leader Sean Morgan said: “Sadly we have seen an increase in demand for food banks in recent years and the Christmas period can be particularly challenging for many.

“As a council we recognise the vital lifeline food banks and community groups provide to people experiencing financial hardship.”

Cllr Morgan continued: “We have been running this appeal for several years and, in that time, raised tens of thousands of pounds to help food banks buy the supplies they need.

“The amount raised in this year’s appeal is staggering and I’d like to thank everyone for their generous donations. I’d also like to thank the council staff who work hard behind the scenes each year to make this appeal a success.”
