A teenager has admitted stealing £3,000 of alcohol from a pub in Rhymney.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of a court-imposed order due to his age, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ on February 7.

The teen broke into the Farmers Arms, on Old Brewery Lane, at around 2am on Wednesday, February 5.

Police officers on patrol in the area at the time spotted “a number of individuals fleeing the area and discarding plastic bags containing multiple bottles”.

Following enquiries, the teenager was arrested on suspicion of burglary and later charged.

Magistrates released the teen on conditional bail ahead of a sentencing hearing due to be held at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on March 4.
