Caerphilly County Borough residents are being encouraged to hold VE Day celebrations this year

As the 80th anniversary of VE Day approaches, residents across Caerphilly County Borough are being encouraged to hold street parties to celebrate the event.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is inviting communities to apply for road closures, free of charge, to allow for celebrations to be held.

On Monday May 5, street parties, community events and more will be held up and down the country to celebrate the Allied victory in World War II.

Cllr Sean Morgan, leader of Caerphilly Council, said: “We have agreed to waive the usual administration fee for those applying for a road closure, to encourage communities to come together to mark this historic occasion.

“These events are a great way to remember all those who served and lost their lives in World War II and also helps strengthen community spirit across our county borough.”

Any individual or group intending to hold a community event on a public highway must let the council know by Friday April 4.

Visit the council’s website for more information and advice on organising VE Day celebrations.
