Premier Inn has won planning permission to build a 24-room extension at its Crossways hotel in Caerphilly.
The chain has “identified a considerable demand for additional hotel accommodation” at the location off the A468, according to agents Walsingham Planning.
The proposed extension would be the third at the hotel, and if completed will be added to the northern corner of the site.
Its construction would mean a slight reduction in car parking spaces at the hotel, but will “make more efficient use of the site”, the agents added.
No members of the public objected to the proposals, and Cllr Jamie Pritchard, who represents the Morgan Jones ward where the hotel is located, supported the scheme. He told the council the extra rooms “would help to provide needed visitor accommodation”.
Council planning officers accepted the extension’s proposed design would “appropriately harmonise with the existing buildings on the site”, and said there would still be “sufficient” parking for guests and staff.
One tree could be lost to the redevelopment, but would be compensated with the planting of three new trees, they added.
The officers granted planning permission, subject to conditions.
