Residents at Abermill Care Home in Abertridwr have been treated to a “special performance” by drag artist ‘Venus Flytrap’.

The show, which featured songs by Tina Turner, Neil Diamond, and Aretha Franklin, “fulfilled a wish” expressed by several residents.

The entertainment was organised after residents Mary Davies, Avery Vaughan, and Jane Lewis asked to see a drag artist during their regular resident meeting.

Christine Tipper, Abermill Care Home manager, reached out to the drag artist for the event, which relatives and staff also attended.

Mary Davies, one of the residents who first asked for the show, said: “She was brilliant, and her make-up was wonderful too. I am speechless and can’t thank the staff enough for making it possible. I would like to see her perform here again.”

Ms Tipper added: “It has been wonderful to see Mary’s wish come true, and her and other residents’ reactions. I was a little dubious at first, but it was outstanding.

“Residents loved the songs and jokes. It’s just lovely to see people get together and have fun. I can’t thank Venus enough.”
